Rhineland Cutlery has the perfect culinary knife set!

Don’t you find it more enjoyable to prepare meals when your equipment is pleasurable to use? I am extremely picky about my kitchen equipment, especially knives, Dull knives are not only frustrating to use, they are downright dangerous!

I recently went to a gun show with my son. While Phil was wandering around looking at guns he didn’t need, I was enthralled by Rhineland Cutlery!

The salesman did a demo with their knives and literally shaved a tomato skin so perfectly, I could almost read through it! They didn’t just use one knife either. They used several different ones out of their set.

I was shown the 20 piece knife set in the bamboo knife block. The knives are made of high carbon German Steel. They come with a life time guarantee! The knives are perfectly balanced and comfortable in the hand.

SOLD!

As I handed my credit card to the salesman, my husband Harry, reminded me that I had recently purchased several new knives. I also have a huge cherry wood knife block that holds 50 knives.

I explained to him that in spite of my extensive collection, I still had to steam, boil or roast some produce to remove the skins. With his diverticulitis flare-up I had to be very careful about skins and seeds.

A few months prior to this purchase, I had all of my knives professionally sharpened and still had….

NO knife suitable for delicate peeling or slicing sushi!!!

My present knives didn’t cut it (bad pun intended, sorry).

What Knives have I tried?

My first expensive knife was the Shun premier chef knife. Within a few years I had about 7 Shun knives.

Within three years, my SHUN Premier knives were soon horribly pitted! My knife sharpener guy said the metal was getting into my food every time I used them. I literally threw away the whole set of Shun knives that day. At $150 to $350 per knife, it made the price tag for the Rhineland set seem like a bargain!

In the last few years, I bought knives from Cold Steel, Kuma, Dalstrong, Imarku, Cut Perfect, Messermeister and Pantry Chef. Out of those, Dalstrong and Pantry Chef were our favorites.

Cold steel was recommended by my knife guy. I did like them ok but didn’t like the feel of them in my hand. They did not seem balanced.

Believe it or not, my husband and I fought over some cheap Messemeister paring knives until I bought a paring knife at a Pantry Chef party. I ended up with three of those. The Messemeister paring knives were cheap at $7 each and great for a low budget knife.

The other knife we used frequently was the Dalstrong Ultimate Utility knife. I like the Dalstrong knife very well but it does not fit into my new knife block and I forget about it.

The Dalstrong Shogun 6″ Utility knife sells for $89.77 on Amazon.

Rhineland does not have a utility knife comparable to the style of the Dalstrong.

Rhineland’s 6″ Easy Blade would be the closest to the Dalstrong utility knife.

My generous son bought me this beautiful knife and had it engraved.

Rhineland has an 8″ Easy Blade, but I have no use for that with my new set.

Sushi Knives.

The Cut Perfect Japanese sushi knife by Sagana Kitchenware was an impressive looking knife. It is also well made and very substantial.

I bought it to cut sushi and was disappointed that it would not cut cleanly through the sushi rolls. I had it professionally sharpened and it still would not cut anything. The blade was too thick.

Obviously I know my way around a knife! I know a good one when I see one and it keeps Harry in line! 🙂

Back to Rhineland!
Rhineland, knives, set

First of all, these knives are beautiful! The photo really does not do them justice.

The knife block itself is very impressive. It is actually two pieces with all of the steak knives in the front block.

Rhineland engraves their knives for free. Isn’t that cool?

My husband and I use the steak knives extensively for food preparation. I am able to peel the thin skins from tomatoes, chili’s, peaches and pear’s with ease. I no longer have to boil the skins from my tomatoes.

They also cut sushi rolls with ease!

Of course ALL of the knives are amazing! I am just amazed that the steak knives work so well!

Every knife purchase comes with a sharpener to maintain the sharp edge between professional sharpening.

Rhineland also has an incredible warranty. If you have an issue with any of your knives, they send you a new one! No questions asked and no need to send back the old knife. I replaced the one my son bought me, It didn’t seem very sharp. I received another within two weeks for free!

This set retails for $1599. They also have a 12 piece set for $1199 with a knife block and other sets starting at $159. (Since I bought this, the price went up a bit).

I found a turn table that works perfectly with my knife block! They look so beautiful in the corner of my counter but I have to move them to get to the bigger knives.

The well in the back of the block houses my culinary scissors and my knife sharpener! It makes this beautiful knife set even more enjoyable!

Once you get your knives, try them out on tomatoes with my Image of tomato cut to resemble a crysanthemum

Japanese Crysanthemum salad!

This is a beautiful heirloom tomato with hijiki seaweed in the center. Seasoned with ginger and umeboshi plum vinegar. Incredibly simple, flavorful and absolutely stunning!
