I’ve been trying to avoid soybean oil for a decade or so because it is likely to be GMO in the U.S. especially. I’ve found too many conflicting reports about how soybeans in general affect the thyroid. I’ve read the Isoflavonoid’s in soy mimic estrogen and potentially disrupt the thyroid function. I’ve also heard that occasional use of soy is fine as long as it is organic.
The WPFB lifestyle shuns oil in all forms because it interferes with the endothelium (lining of the blood vessels). Studies show it can affect the lining for up to four hours after ingesting oil which would greatly impact the blood pressure and possibly bring on a heart attack. Personally I avoid oil of all kinds as much as possible but as prevalent as it is, I suspect I get some kind of oil any time I dine out.
Especially soybean oil! Soybean oil is the most heavily used oil in use for processed foods and cooking in general. Often olive oil is actually flavored soybean oil! Soybean oil seems to be in everything! Chef’s are taught that “fat is flavor”. I don’t think soybean oil has a taste and it seems thicker than other oils but it is especially difficult to find a salad dressing, condiment or bread that does not have soybean oil. If it is not soybean oil, the second runner up would be canola oil. Since it is likely to be GMO as well, I would assume that it would test out the same as soybean oil.
When I run across an article that ties oil to yet another health issue, I had to read it and share it!
Dementia, Alzheimers, Lewy body dementia, Parkinson’s, Schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and other diseases could be related to the use of soybean oil in our diet.
I ran across this article I thought was interesting. It is a study on soybean oil in the attempt to prove health claims and that some oil can be made healthier, but they determined that soybean oil is linked to too many diseases to be consumed.
