Whole Foods, Plant Based?
Has the definition changed???

I’ve read several articles lately that claim a whole food plant based diet ALLOWS meat, fish, poultry, eggs and dairy in small amounts!
We are to avoid oils, processed foods and artificial foods.

I’ve been WFPB for 2 1/2 years and I understood it to be a diet of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, NO animal products, no processed oils, limited to no processed and artificial foods, limited to no gluten, salt and sugar.

Do you think a WFPB includes animal products?

Granted, there are people out there that recommend a diet that is plant based heavy like Anthony William. Anthony says to not eat pork during his cleanses. He never says much about other animal products other than eggs, which he says to avoid. However, his recipes are all WFPB!

Several doctors recommend a plant based diet but claim they might eat turkey on Thanksgiving.

Could be the media has gotten confused?

Even professional chef’s do know what is vegan and what is not. I recently watched a cooking show where the competitors were supposed to make vegan dishes. The winners included soy sauce and oyster sauce in the first round and egg noodles in the second round when they should have been disqualified for not creating vegan dishes.

Personally, I am not buying it!  I biggest turn around to my health was when I totally abstained from animal products. The few times I slipped, knowingly or unknowingly, I started having health problems again.

Photo of asparagus, tomato and steakI noticed that I can order a vegan dish in a restaurant but it is likely NOT vegan. For example the veggie burger with the brioche bun. Brioche has egg and likely the veggie patty does too. As little as I eat out, I consider myself about 95% compliant in light of what I might possibly be eating when I don’t prepare my own food! After a restaurant meal, I don’t feel good for days!

Recently I’ve come to realize that animal products may come with addictions that come back very quickly when you imbibe in them again. Cheese is highly addictive and my cravings came back after eating a little goat cheese on salad. It’s like caffeine. Abstain, and have a headache the first three days. Have one cup of coffee and the addiction is back!

What you find here!

Snap Pea Sheep is dedicated to a diet of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, NO animal products, extremely limited processed oils, artificial foods, limited to no gluten, salt and sugar. This is a TRANSITION site because I am not perfect and I am not judging anyone who is trying to make the change.

You might find a little oil like a few drops of sesame or truffle oil in my recipes. I use the purest coconut oil for my tamales I make a couple times a year. I am constantly looking for ways to improve.

I will sparingly use sourdough bread, organic corn tortillas,  pita bread, organic pasta, rice and polenta, but I try to find organic and oil free. I found organic and gluten free panko crumbs and use those with my air fried foods. I use puff pastry a few times a year for special dishes but will find a way to eliminate that as well.  It is best to eliminate gluten, soy and corn products completely but difficult to do. I was using some organic panko and noticed the label changed. I found that it had eggs so I stopped using it.
