Even after losing weight, my blood pressure was inconsistent. Although it was considerably lower than it was before I went WFPB, it would get in the 145/95 range which was concerning. However, it would drop low enough that blood pressure medication was a dangerous choice for me. I tapered off the medication when my blood pressure dropped to 68/52.
I use Himalayan salt and have not found it to affect my blood pressure much. Regular table salt and fat seem to be the worst contributors to high blood pressure.
Although drinking red wine can often bring blood pressure down by 10 points in a short period of time, consistently drinking wine will eventually keep your blood pressure high.
Celery juice every day will certainly lower your blood pressure. Although highly recommended, it can get expensive and it is somewhat of a hassle to juice every single day.
What really works is hibiscus tea! It is cheap and versatile! I buy loose tea and make it is a pot.
I purchased this 43 oz teapot on Amazon. It has a strainer that sits in the top. I put three scoops (about 2/3 full) in the strainer and pour the hot water through the strainer into the pot.
It seeps for about 10 minutes.
I sometimes add a little cinnamon or mulled wine spices to tea and drink it hot.
You may prefer to add a little honey. It has a nice floral taste but it is a little tart like cranberry. It goes well with cranberry juice if you want to enjoy the benefits of the cranberry as well.
I really like it when added to lemonade with a little honey. It is also quite tasty in orange juice, pineapple juice or just sparkling water.
I make it quite strong as you can see by my cup of tea in the photo. The tea from the pot could be added to a large liter of water and it would be just fine!
Recently I started drinking it in a wine glass and I enjoy it just as I would a nice Pinot Noir!
By drinking hibiscus tea daily, I have noticed an improvement in my skin. My blood pressure if often that of a teenager, only going up if I eat a high salt or fatty meal.
My cholesterol is lower but then, I noticed the relationship between blood pressure and fat. If there is a lot of fat in the blood, the blood pressure will certainly spike because the body has to work harder to pump the blood! Obviously the triglycerides and cholesterol will both go down on a low fat diet. I cannot say for certain that hibiscus tea can take the credit.
If the fat intake is down, the weight will go down as well. Lower fat can aide the regulation of sugar in the blood and lower the risk of diabetes.
Hibiscus tea may have many benefits, but I don’t believe it is going to do it all on it’s own.
Hibiscus tea is reported to have many other benefits as well. I have included a link where you can go and read about hibiscus tea.
