Detox news:
For those of you who want to join me in my 90 day detox you may want to stock up on a few things.
My reference material for this detox is by Anthony William. His Thyroid Healing, Liver Rescue and Cleanse to Heal books are enlightening.
However, Anthony presents the information and you have to choose how to implement it.
In this article, I list a lot of what can and cannot be eaten.
The first week is very low in fat and the otherwise allowable fats are listed.
This entire cleanse will focus on reducing heavy metals to enable healing from any viruses. The detox should also help to restore health by healing the liver and thyroid.
9 Daily habits!
1 .Lemon juice – one lemon squeezed into hot water in the AM or 16 oz cold in the afternoon. Honey can be used as a sweetener.
2. Kombu, wakame, hijiki, Atlantic dulse: All seaweeds absorb heavy metals. Use it in broth, soup or beans. Some type of seaweed will be consumed 3 – 5 times a week.
3. Celery – plan on juicing 1 whole head per day per person.
4. Blueberries, bananas, orange, cilantro will be in a daily smoothie and include dulse, spirulina and barley grass powder.
5. Ginger- 16 oz ginger water or ginger tea daily.
6. Blueberries or other berries daily if you don’t do the smoothie ( please use organic if you can).
7. Cucumber will be consumed daily.
8. Aloe juice. Fresh preferred or Desert Lily juice, daily.
9. Cilantro is an excellent detox aide to reduce heavy metals. It will be included frequently.
What else is allowed?
All types of greens, squash, beets and other root vegetables. Herbs of all kinds.
Apples, pears, mango, melons, papaya, citrus fruit, tomatoes.
Asparagus, artichokes, cruciferous vegetables, potatoes, organic peppers, mushrooms.
Nightshades may be ok for you. Some people are more sensitive than others. Read my article on nightshades.
No spices or herbs seem to be off limits. Turmeric, garlic, ginger, cinnamon, cumin, oregano, cilantro, onion and parsley are extremely beneficial.
On a personal note, I’ve found that hibiscus tea is delightful to drink and helps regulate the blood pressure. I have added it to my daily routine. Read Hibiscus Tea lowers blood pressure!
My Recommended Supplements:
Anthony lists a number of conditions and supplements for those conditions in his books. It’s really a matter of going through them, finding your condition(s) and selecting what you can afford. The ones I take seemed to be prescribed over and over again for multiple conditions.
I bought all of my supplements on Amazon. The barley grass and spirulina are the most important and go in smoothies. Select as many as you can.
- Pure Hawaiian Spirulina powder – essential detox aide to reduce heavy metals.
2. Organic barley grass extract powder – another essential detox aide to reduce heavy metals.
3. Lemon balm tea
4. Nature’s Answer Cats Claw
5. Nature’s Answer Burdock Root
6. B12 with Metylcobalamin and Adenosylcobalamin. Other types are not easily absorbed.
Food prep methods:
Most foods will be raw or in smoothies. Certain foods like mushrooms, rhubarb, amaranth and artichokes should never be eaten raw.
If it’s not raw it will be steamed, roasted or or in a soup. If it is in soup, you are getting all of the nutrients you would get if the food was steamed. I’ve made a lot of soups!
One of my favorite soups is the Olive Garden Potato Soup (Zuppa Toscana). It is so good I felt I was cheating. It has a slight amount of fat from the coconut milk so use water on days you are fat free.
My favorite go-to salad is Japanese Crysanthemum salad or Japanese Spinach Salad with ginger.
These can be prepared in minutes and they are quite delicious!
What you can’t eat!
No Animal products. That means no meat, eggs, dairy or cheese! Anthony is not WFPB, but this is MY detox and this is a WFPB website.
Regular table sugar, sugar syrups or table salt should be eliminated. No artificial sweeteners. Personally I think Himalayan salt is ok and I use it.
Date sugar is ok, Honey is ok, controversial but ok. here.
Anthony allows olive oil but avoid it because it’s usually just a canola oil blend. I use coconut oil if I am going to use any at all, but not of fat free days. Otherwise, try to be oil-free.
It should go without saying but no processed food! No MSG. Nothing that says “natural flavors” or artificial flavors. No citric acid.
Gluten free for all 90 days!
No flour or wheat products.
No corn, soy, edamame. SOME tofu may be used but only organic. Limit it to no more than once a week and none on fat free days. It is the GMO soy that disrupts the thyroid, not organic soy!
No whey protein, no L-Carnitine. No fish oil or iron supplements.
Limited fats!
For the first week no avocado, coconut, coconut oil, nuts, seeds, tofu, tahini, nut butters.
Anthony William does not mention beans one way or another so I assume they are ok. I cook mine with kombu to stop the musical effects. It’s an easy way to get seaweed. (After this writing I found where he limits beans in his Liver Rescue detox plan because they are hard to digest).
He doesn’t mention rice or grains but I don’t see any in his recipes. He uses spiralized vegetable noodles.
Anthony doesn’t mention olives. Olives are high in fat so certainly avoid them when you are limiting fat.
They are processed and essentially a fermented food which Anthony avoids . I assume avoid or eat sparingly! That bling said, I often blend olives and use them instead of oil in dressings or pasta.
Anthony doesn’t mention alcohol but it’s a no brainer that you can’t drink and detox at the same time. I have several alcohol free cocktails on my site. You can also choose to leave the alcohol out of any beverage, cocktail or not.
Since doing this 90 day detox, Anthony published a new book called Cleanse to Heal. In it he has several versions of the 3-6-9 diet he had in Liver Rescue. Instead of doing the 90 day detox, I can repeatedly do the 3-6-9 six times with a few days of “maintenance” in between and six days after. I would always start on a Friday and end on the following Sunday.
Maintenance means no fat before noon and drink lots of water.
