Unrelated to food but more specifically my site:
Q. Multiple questions about the SnapPeaSheep site.
Who is developing your site? What blog software are you using? I want to start a blog. Do you have any tips? Who are you using for your host?
A. About my site development:
Start up can be costly. I started attempting to develop a site over 3 years ago not knowing what I was doing. I spent a lot of money and was getting nowhere. After almost a year, I finally started taking WordPress web design classes from Christina Hills.
I use WordPress.org, the Divi Extra theme by Elegant Themes, the Ultimate Recipe Plug-in by Bootstrapped Ventures, Go-Daddy for my domain, Blue Host for my host, Yoast for my SEO and Updraft Plus for my backup. There are costs associated with all of these services.
I make no money from my site. Once I have enough recipes, I intend to create some e-books but it will barely offset the cost. I am doing SnapPeaSheep to share my story and help people.
Q. So what IS a whole food, plant based diet?
A. Also known as WFPB, this is a diet and lifestyle where no animal products are consumed. For health reasons, the WFPB diet is very low in fat and higher in complex carbohydrates. We avoid processed food which usually include harmful additives and oils. Some of us avoid GMO’s as well.
Q. What kind of health issues can be helped with a WFPB diet?
A. There are many references by T. Colin Campbell, Caldwell Esselstyn, Michael Greger and John McDougall that Heart Disease, Type 2 Diabetes, Hypertension, various digestive problems, Obesity, skin conditions, nerve pain, Gout and some cancers can be slowed or reversed by a WFPB lifestyle.
Q. How will I get my protein?
A. This is a common question.
First, there is quite a bit of evidence that people do not need as much protein as we think. In fact, higher protein can contribute to cancer. There is a lot of protein in plant foods, especially beans, nuts and seeds.
People can eat 20% protein on the WFPB diet without triggering cancer cells while anything over 5% animal protein can trigger cancer cells.
Q. B12 is not derived from plant food. How do we get that?
A. A supplement can be taken once a week and there are many options on the market.
Q. I can’t eat night shade plants, so what can I eat?
A. Some people claim the nightshades make their arthritis worse. It is possible that the acid in tomatoes might raise your uric acid levels and cause a flare up of gout. After being on a WFPB diet for a few months you may find your arthritis gone completely. At that time you may try a tomato and see how you feel. See my post about nightshades.
Can nightshades make you sick?\
Q. I have diabetes and cannot eat fruit or starch. Will it ever be safe for me to eat?
A. The real cause of diabetes is the fat we eat! If the pancreas is not functioning correctly, the body becomes insulin resistant and you pack on fat. While Dr. John McDougall believes you can jump right in and eat potatoes and fruit, from personal experience, I think your pancreas has to heal first. Once your diabetes has reversed, you should be able to enjoy low sugar fruit and potatoes but continue to avoid most grains, especially wheat, corn and soy. Avoid all oil!
